Dennis Hopson (born April 22, 1965) is a former American professional basketball player who worked as an assistant coach at Bowling Green State University until the conclusion of the 2013-14 season. In his time at Ohio State University, Hopson was a prolific scorer, and his outstanding shooting abilities helped him finish second in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Division I scoring title during the 1986–87 season, and eventually place him first on the school’s all-time men’s basketball career points list. The All-American and Big Ten Conference Player of the Year in 1987 was chosen by the New Jersey Nets with the third overall selection in the 1987 NBA Draft, and he spent a total of five seasons in the league after graduating from college. Hopson spent the bulk of the 1990s playing basketball in other countries until announcing his retirement at the end of that decade.
